Moving from an AM to an AD is a big step. Being promoted when you're not ready can have a negative effect on the company and on your confidence. I'm a great advocate for ambition and pushing for a promotion, but only if you're ready. The problem is, how do you know you're ready? The difference in an AM and AD is often not explained clearly and this leads understandably to frustration and unhappiness. I have therefore set out to condense what I believe are the core differences. (This is by no means an exhaustive list and purely a summary of key points. Levels of responsibility will vary depending on size and type of agency).
